Cuba bets on luxury hotels to develop tourism industry.
The traditional landscape that distinguishes the oldest part of Havana with its cobbled streets, old cars and picturesque colonial buildings has been changing in recent months with the opening of luxurious and modern hotels that seek to expand the tourist offer in Cuba.
Currently, the Caribbean country is betting on new facilities of high standard before the increase of international visitors, especially in the capital, that provide exclusive services to a market segment that until now had not been representative.
In the last year and a half, the first two five-star plus hotels under the management of international companies and the leading group of Cuban tourism Gaviota have opened their doors in Havana's historic quarter.
However, the development plan is much more ambitious and plans to build new facilities in the capital, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of its founding, as well as in other cities and spas on the island.
"In 2019 the contributions of the tourism industry to Havana will be noted, where there are seven important investments in execution," José Daniel Alonso, director of development of the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba (Mintur), recently told the press.
One of these buildings is the Hotel Paseo del Prado, located in the famous Havana intersection of Prado and Malecón, destined to become the famous hotel of the city for its marvelous view of the entrance to the bay of Havana.
"This is a hotel that began construction in February 2017 (...) and has a completion date of September 10, 2019," Orlando Oramas, investment director of the project, told Xinhua.
