The Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers of Cuba recently declared the Pilar Beach Dunes as a Protected Area; for being considered the highest in the Caribbean and one of the oldest in the region.

Located in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination, north of Ciego de Ávila, the Dunes classify as a Protected Area of ​​Local Significance, with the category of Outstanding Natural Element, which gives special environmental importance.

With the implementation of a special operational plan the National Company for the Protection of Flora and Fauna, responsible for administering the site, seeks to complete the management that ensures the integral preservation of that area, so you must follow up on First proposed statements and present the initial results in two years, according to specialists from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, CITMA, Alina Larrondo and Dailon Fundora.

After executing these proposals, actions must be carried out to promote ecologically sustainable tourism development for the conservation of this highly fragile ecosystem, where the Provincial Coordinating Board of Protected Areas of Ciego de Ávila, chaired by the Territorial Delegation of CITMA, is the responsible for advising the regulations for the sustained preservation of the famous Dunes of Playa Pilar.

Respecting biological diversity with a coherent order that delimits and protects each space is among the short-term tasks planned to preserve the site.

Playa Pilar, a natural space with enigmatic surroundings of fine white sands, is considered among the best in Cuba and the Caribbean, according to surveys of several international tour groups and tour operators, where its warm and transparent blue waters, bordering hotel facilities in first Beach line, captivate countless national and foreign visitors.

With unparalleled sea beds, surrounded by coral formations of extreme beauty, Playa Pilar has excellent scientific value with rich endemic and exotic species that must be protected.
