Vedado, district of the City of Havana whose construction began in the late nineteenth century and reached its maximum splendor in the first half of the twentieth century. It is said that the name comes from an area considered as forbidden (prohibited) in times when the wall protecting the city, thus creating a zone defense against attacks by pirates or foreign forces. Considered a model of urban development is characterized by the harmonious combination of populated streets and avenues of trees, porches and houses of various styles mainly eclectic.

Their Evolution led him to combine buildings, cinemas, restaurants, schools, public institutions that were completing their urban fabric but without losing the charm of its tree-lined walkways and streets that are still present in homes. Today is rediscovered by architects and urban planners from around the world who admire its beauty and elegance. Avenues Walk (formerly known as Avenue of the mayors) and the chairpersons (or G Street) are two of the most famous neighborhood since moving to the political center of the city to the waterfront.

Also in the Vedado we can find the majestic Colon Cemetery, which is a cultural heritage of the Cuban nation as one of the most significant cemeteries in the world because of their sculptural values. The Tower of Chorrera, a small fortress of several centuries old and was part of the whole military fortifications of the old city, is located near the mouth of the river, marking the boundary of the west end Malecón. Another important point is the Vedado is "La Rampa", a name that takes the street from the corner of 23 L northward to the Malecón.

It is a pulsing center of life, cinemas, hotels, restaurants, the headquarters of major ministries, agencies. Revolution Square is also in Vedado. This place has become a center of political demonstrations and cultural activities. It also includes buildings like the headquarters of the National Library, the Palace of the Revolution (government headquarters), the National Theater, etc.. Also known is the area called New Vedado, with more modern buildings, predominantly family homes in the modernist style, which emerged as an extension of traditional Vedado, mainly in the 50s of the twentieth century.
