Quemado de Güines is a municipality located north of the province of Villa Clara, central region of Cuba. The town was founded in 1667, by several families of lumberjacks who, in order to colonize the area to begin logging, were given the task of burning the güines trees, very abundant in the region, hence their name.
The municipality is divided into the towns of Caguaguas, Carahatas, Güines, Paso Cavado, Poblado, San Valentín and Zambumbia and José R. Riquelme.
The revolutionary triumph on January 1, 1959 opened a new page in the history of Quemado de Güines. The set of laws and measures tending to produce a true social revolution, had the immediate support and participation of the people of Québec who have offered their lives for the sake of a better future such as the literary martyr Delfín Sen Cedré and numerous internationalists.
